Three teenagers have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of plotting an Islamist terrorist attack in the name of ISIS, AFP reported.

Prosecutors identified the suspects as two girls and a boy between the ages of 15 and 16. The suspects are residents of the Duesseldorf region.

The trio plotted to commit murder and manslaughter in the attack, prosecutors said.

According to the Bild newspaper, they planned to throw firebombs and stab people, targeting Christians and police. In addition, they were considering obtaining guns to make their attacks more effective.

Germany and other countries have been on heightened alert for Islamist terrorist threats following the Hamas surprise attack and massacre in southern Israel on October 7.

The plot does not appear to be connected to the increased threat of international terrorism from Iran and its proxies following the assassination of a senior Revolutionary Guards official in Damascus earlier this month.
