X owner Elon Musk on Sunday responded to public backlash over his recent post in which he appeared to endorse an antisemitic conspiracy theory about Jewish people.
“This past week, there were hundreds of bogus media stories claiming that I am antisemitic,” Musk wrote, as quoted by The Hill.
“Nothing could be further from the truth,” he continued. “I wish only the best for humanity and a prosperous and exciting future for all.”
The recent wave of media backlash came after Musk replied, “You have said the actual truth,” to a post that repeated an antisemitic conspiracy theory suggesting Jews want to flood the country with minority groups from elsewhere.
The post read, “I’m deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much.”
Musk’s apparent endorsement of the post resulted in multiple industry giants announcing that they will no longer be advertising on X.
Among those participating in the boycott are IBM, Sony, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, Paramount, Comcast, and Warner Bros.
The White House condemned the statement, saying, "It is unacceptable to repeat the hideous lie behind the most fatal act of Antisemitism in American history at any time, let alone one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust."
Musk previously had a tense relationship with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which culminated in Musk threatening a defamation lawsuit against the organization.
Musk’s threat to file a defamation lawsuit against the ADL came several days after he suggested holding a poll on X asking users whether to ban the ADL from the platform.
The CEO of X had earlier “liked” the tweet launching the hashtag #BanTheADL by Keith Woods, an Irish white nationalist and self-described “raging antisemite.”
The ADL ultimately ended its feud with Musk, announcing it will resume advertising on X.
