The IDF on Saturday afternoon shot down a surface-to-air missile fired from Lebanese territory towards an IAF aircraft. Following the hit to the missile, a loud explosion was heard, but no siren sounded.
An IDF spokesman said that following the incident, the IDF attacked the source of the fire. Two hours later, air raid sirens sounded in the Galilee after antitank missiles and mortars were fired towards Israel. The IDF responded with artillery fire and tank fire towards Lebanese territory.
At about 6:00p.m., a third incident of fire from Lebanon occurred, leading the IDF to return fire.
A surface-to-air missile was intercepted during the afternoon after an IAF aircraft attacked Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon overnight, in response to Friday rocket fire launched towards Israel but which fell in Syria.
In a statement, the IDF said, "Following the initial report regarding sirens that sounded in northern Israel, three launches were identified from Lebanese territory toward Israel. The launches fell in open areas."
"In response, the IDF struck Hezbollah military infrastructure in Lebanon."
The interception is the second time in three days that IAF fighters intercepted a surface-to-air missile. On Wednesday, the IDF Aerial Defense Array intercepted a surface-to-air missile fired from Lebanon at an IDF UAV. In response, IDF aircraft struck the source of the launch.
