The Israel Police Department has begun dismissing volunteers who threatened to stop volunteering if the government's judicial reform plan were to pass, Kan News reported on Monday.

Several volunteers who signed the letter in which they threatened to quit were summoned to the station where they volunteered. There, they were notified that their service was being frozen.

The police commented on the report and said, "The volunteer signed a petition, together with additional volunteers, that calls to stop volunteer service if the judicial reform were to pass.

The police volunteers are subject to the Israel Police Department's policies, including the prohibition of political expression in connection with their volunteering. Therefore, it was decided to freeze the volunteer's service temporarily."

The petition, signed by approximately 170 volunteers, states: "We oppose the coup d'etat which is being carried out by you now. We see the weakening of the judicial branch as an attack on the basic principles of the government and the state as written in the Declaration of Independence. We hereby notify you that if the coup is successful and the police stand alongside the government, we will stop serving it.

We understand that by doing this, we will harm the body that is dear to us - Israel Police and our friends, the police officers, who will have to carry the pressure. Despite this, we cannot take part in the executive branch of the dictatorship you are striving for."
