In light of recent calls by Likud MKs to speed up the legislation to reduce the reasonability clause, National Unity leader Benny Gantz called on the Prime Minister to address a number of other issues instead.
"On Sunday next week, Netanyahu can and should convene a special discussion in the defense cabinet, to discuss a series of security challenges on the agenda, from the ones in Judea and Samaria, the growing tensions on the northern border, and Tehran," Gantz insisted.
Recently, Hezbollah operatives have been taking increasingly open steps against IDF security emplacements on Israel's northern border, and there has been a growing fear of rocket fire from PA-controlled regions of Samaria.
"On Sunday next week, Netanyahu can and should convene a special discussion with his Foreign Minister and the professionals in the Foreign Ministry, to discuss the many challenges in the international arena, chief among them the deepening rift with the American administration, and to find a way that will bring him to the White House," Gantz added.
US President Joe Biden has recently and openly contradicted Netanayhu's positions on Middle East policy, in particular the possibility of normalizing relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Netanyahu's alleged attempts to secure an invitation to the Biden White house have thus far been unsuccessful. Israel is also working to meet the requirements for the US Visa Waiver Agreement, but has yet to be approved.
"He should convene a special discussion with the Minister of Finance and his office, with senior officials of the economy and high-tech, and discuss solutions that will prevent an economic collapse and address the cost of living," said Gantz.
Several MKs have recently blamed various phenomena for the rising cost of living in Israel, including rising import taxes and mortgage rates. Finance Minister Smotrich has recently started an initiative to reduce import taxes on dairy.
"But this coming Sunday, Netanyahu will continue to surrender to the extremists - and will convene the Knesset for a special discussion on cancelling the reasonability clause. Netanyahu is again choosing to tear the people apart. It's not too late to stop," Gantz urged.
