Member of Knesset Zvi Sukkot (Religious Zionism) appealed to the Ethics Committee of the Knesset, the Israel Police, and the Attorney General demanding to open an investigation against MK Ayman Odeh (Hadash) after he expressed his support for the residents of Jenin.
In Odeh's speech last night in the Knesset, he said: "Everyone is proud of Jenin and rightly so, and now more people will join the soldiers against this damned occupation. Every action has a reaction, the occupation has a reaction, and that is the resistance. The resistance to the occupation is legitimate, and the occupation is illegitimate, Long live Jenin, long live the Palestinian people and long live their righteous struggle. You all disgust me."
Sukkot noted in his address that "the words of a party chairman in Israel do not come in a vacuum. The evening before, a major military operation against the terrorist organizations in the Jenin refugee camp ended. These are murderous terrorist organizations that have carried out attacks in the past year and a half in which approximately 23 citizens of the State of Israel were murdered."
Sukkot later emphasized: "The terrorist organizations in Jenin use the term "resistance" to describe terrorist activity that includes shooting and throwing explosives at IDF soldiers and Israeli citizens. Every child in Israel who hears Member of Knesset Odeh speak in praise of the "resistance" and in praise of the "Jenin refugee camp" on this day understands that terrorism against Israelis is a blessed act. These things constitute incitement to terrorism in the most acute sense, especially when they are heard from the mouth of a party chairman in Israel."
"It also cannot be ignored that Knesset member Odeh chose to say these words during the funeral of the late IDF soldier David Yehuda Yitzchak, thus hurting the feelings of Knesset members and the entire people of Israel. It is unthinkable that the official state institutions would allow support and encouragement of the enemy during wartime from the Knesset podium. I will ask the ethics committee to impose the most severe punishment possible on Knesset member Odeh in light of his serious words."
Member of Knesset Almog Cohen (Otzma Yehudit) also filed a complaint and later said: "I submitted to the Knesset Ethics Committee a complaint against MK Ayman Odeh, for supporting terrorism and portraying IDF soldiers, who act legally and morally, as criminals."
"In addition, Ayman Odeh said these words on the stage of the Knesset at the very time of the funeral of the soldier David Yehuda Yitzchak, an IDF soldier killed during the recent operation in Jenin."
"Because of this, I asked the chairman of the committee to apply all possible sanctions against him. The Knesset of Israel will not be used as a platform for these vile and depraved things, at least not on my watch."
