Several of the witnesses of the shooting attack at Eli Junction gathered, one week after the attack, to recount their experiences.
Moral Nikar, the civilian who killed one of the terrorists but was himself wounded in an exchange of fire, is still recovering from the wounds sustained to his legs. He visited the scene in a wheelchair, and remembers: "I was on guard duty at the gate to the town of Eli (a few hundred meters from the scene by car). I heard shooting and ran for my car. I raced here as fast as I could. I put the parking brake on with my right hand, opened the door with my left, picked up my gun with my right. The terrorist was already running at me, and I was running at him. He fell about a meter behind me. I could have gotten here faster, and maybe saved another person. What I thought wouldn't take long in getting the car started took longer than I thought."
Hanna Yoel, a young woman who works as a cashier at the nearby Hummus Eliyahu restaurant, said "We were taking a lunch break, and sitting at the picnic tables outside. We were eating, laughing, everything was as normal. I looked over and saw Elisha was lying on the floor with a head wound. I froze, and knew that I could either stay frozen or run. In a second, I decided to run, and fled into the thorns and rocks around the gas station. I hid until security forces arrived, and met a paramedic who had come to the scene as well. From him, I was sent to a police officer in the same unit as my father, who had just arrived at the scene as well. I have no doubt that I was given my life again that day."
David Yoel, Hanna's father and an Israel Police officer who responded to the attack, said: "I saw Hanna in the arms of one of the officers of my unit, and heard her saying 'Father, Father'. At that moment, I was only her father, nothing else - I ran to her as if in a movie, hugged her, and lifted her into my car. Seeing her alive and moving is a miracle all its own."
Nitzan Yamin, who was at the gas station during the attack, commented: "I heard shooting, and ran towards the road. Watching the video later, I saw that the terrorist knelt down, aimed at me, and shot burst after burst. It was terrifying to hear all the bullets flying around."
