The IDF reports that the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, MG Eliezer Toledano, the Head of the International Cooperation Division, BG Effi Defrin, and the Head of the Operations Division in the Intelligence Directorate (J2), BG G., visited Cairo earlier today (Sunday), and continued the joint investigation together with senior Egyptian military officials, into the infiltration of the Egyptian police officer who murdered IDF soldiers Lia Bin-Nun, Ori Yitzhak Illouz, and Ohad Dahan last week.

The joint investigation began on the day of the incident when a delegation of senior officials from the Egyptian Armed Forces arrived at the scene of the incident in Israel and is still being held. Both sides expressed their commitment to an in-depth investigation.

In the meantime, the IDF's internal investigation into the incident found a series of failures at all levels, including the command and operational levels. Another pair of soldiers were 200 meters from where Bin-Nun and Illouz were killed but did not report the gunshots because the sound of gunshots is common in the area and because they apparently thought it was the wind.

It was also found that the soldiers in the guardpost which was attacked did not realize that the opening through which the terrorist shot them was sealed with only a piece of nylon. It is unclear who approved a 12-hour watch in the guardpost.
