Lod Mayor Yair Revivo was stunned to discover on Monday that his WhatsApp account has been blocked, and he is unable to send messages to people using the application.
For Revivo, who responds to residents' inquiries around the clock on WhatsApp, this is a significant issue that makes it very difficult for him to function as the Mayor of Lod.
"Hello, democracy? WhatsApp blocked me," Revivo wrote on his Twitter account. “I don't have spam software, and my only ‘sin’ is that I respond to thousands of inquiries from my residents, every day, all day long."
In the meantime, Revivo tried to contact Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp which also owns Facebook, but his attempts were in vain.
"All my inquiries to Facebook Israel were not answered," he said. "In these tense days, this is nothing less than a scandal."
