Former French parliamentarian Meyer Habib responded on Sunday to reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering appointing him as Israel’s next Ambassador to France.

"I am a French Israeli, so technically I can be the Israeli ambassador. As I have already said, I love Israel and France as much as I love my mother and father,” he told i24NEWS France in an interview.

“At the moment, I’m an outgoing French Member of Parliament. If one day, Prime Minister Netanyahu offers me this - to be an ambassador - I will come to you in the studio to let you know my answer,” added Habib.

Friday’s report came hours after a court in France invalidated the re-election of Habib, who his close to Netanyahu, to the French Parliament.

The position of Israel’s Ambassador to France will be vacant in the next two weeks after the current Ambassador, Yael German, resigned from the position following the change of government.

The Prime Minister's Office said in response to Friday’s report that the Prime Minister is not currently dealing with the appointment of the Israeli Ambassador to Paris.
