Education Minister Yifat Shasha-Biton (New Hope) spoke at Israel's "Meet the Press" about the decision to fire her Director General, Yigal Slovik, just six months after he took office.
"It has been an unexpected and stormy week for everyone," she said. "An entire country was awash in a journey of false revenge. A large amount of false information has been spread."
When asked why she fired Slovik, Shasha-Biton said, "After his recordings and interviews, it can be understood that this was a position of faith - and when you lose faith, you can fire [the person]. After the last recording, [in] which he himself said that if he does not stay until February, there will be mutual firing, there is no reason he should remain another minute."
Regarding the claims that she opposed vaccines, Shasha-Biton said, "I gave clear instructions to those on the ground, including an announcement which allows school principals to turn vaccination day into a fun activity day."
"I am not coronavirus minister," she emphasized. "I am Education Minister."
