A 28-year-old unvaccinated new mother is hospitalized with coronavirus in the ICU at Hadera's Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in serious condition, after giving birth to a baby boy via Caesarean section, Israel Hayom reported.

According to Hillel Yaffe, the new mother is intubated and unconscious, and her condition is serious but stable. The infant is doing very well, and in the hospital's NICU.

Dr. Mickey Dudkiewicz, Hillel Yaffe's Director General, said: "I hope that we are seeing the current wave wind down. The overload in our coronavirus wards is still felt, as it is in the internal medicine wards. A significant portion of those hospitalized in the coronavirus wards is not vaccinated, and in line with this, the infections are more serious. Go get vaccinated."

There are currently 25 pregnant women and 26 new mothers who are positive for coronavirus, including one who is intubated. Among the pregnant and new mothers, just 31% are vaccinated against coronavirus, while 65% are unvaccinated.

Earlier this week, an unvaccinated 30-year-old new mother who gave birth one week ago to a healthy baby girl died of coronavirus in Emek Medical Center in northern Israel.
