A new anti-Israel film created by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor has sparked controversy after being screened at the Venice Film Festival.
According to its creators, the film sets out to prove that Gazans were deliberately harmed during the war as a result of the IDF’s methods of operation and military policy.
The film presents testimony from 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence personnel, who appear anonymously, with their faces concealed and their voices distorted.
Among other things, the film claims that the IDF uses artificial intelligence systems to identify targets in a manner that does not take into account the harm that could be caused to civilian targets in the area - claims that have never been proven or seriously examined, including by the filmmakers themselves.
MK Tally Gotliv (Otzma Yehudit) responded angrily, writing: “Who needs enemies when we have enemies at home? Where is the Defense Minister? Where is the Chief of Staff? When members of Unit 8200 are interviewed for a film that will be screened at a festival and lie about the mass killing of civilians in Gaza and about the selection of targets using AI."
“How are they still soldiers?" Gotliv asked. “How are they not behind bars? Where is the military censor? Mr. Defense Minister, perhaps you can tell us how the IDF has not responded to these horrific lies?"
“Once again, through its silence, the IDF Spokesperson serves a narrative that severely damages the IDF’s resilience and the moral integrity of our courageous soldiers. ‘Those who destroy and devastate you will come from within you,’" quoting a verse in Isaiah.
