Deputy Communications Minister Yisrael Eichler is expected to conclude his role as the Belz hasidic community's representative after many years in the Knesset.

Elyakim Stark, who currently serves as chairman of Belz's executive committee, is expected to replace him.

Eichler has served intermittently since 2003 as a Knesset member and as Belz's representative on the Agudat Yisrael slate. Now, after Eichler served multiple terms representing the hasidic movement in the Knesset, Belz is expected to appoint a new representative in his place.

The decision was made approximately a week ago at the instruction of the Belzer Rebbe. Under the decision, Stark is expected to succeed Eichler in his position as the movement's representative.

Alongside the decision to replace him, efforts are being made within Belz to bring Eichler's tenure to a dignified conclusion, and Belz officials have stressed they want to avoid the manner in which the removal of Moshe Gafni and Uri Maklev was handled by the Lithuanian-haredi Degel HaTorah faction.
