Two European elected officials have been barred from entering Israel. At the request of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, and in accordance with the authority granted under Israel’s Entry into Israel Law, the Population and Immigration Authority will prevent the entry of two European Parliament members from Sweden’s Left Party, Jonas Sjöstedt and Hanna Gedin.
The two had planned to arrive in Israel overnight as part of a visit to the Palestinian Authority.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the two have consistently acted against the State of Israel in recent years. Among other things, they have called for international legal proceedings to be pursued against Israeli officials.
They have also made what Israel describes as false allegations against the country on various public occasions, including accusations of genocide, deliberate starvation, and the intentional targeting of children and medical personnel.
