The Home Front Command on Sunday morning announced that it is extending the amount of warning time for those in the city of Eilat and its surrounding area.
The change, set to take effect within by Monday evening, will give residents and tourists three times longer to reach a protected space once a siren sounds.
The new warning time will be 90 seconds (one and a half minutes), instead of the previous 30 seconds.
The update will be implemented gradually across all alert platforms, including sirens, the Home Front Command app, and the national portal.
A team of experts from the Home Front Command, in cooperation with Southern Command and the Israeli Air Force, carried out a series of operational and technological adjustments that made it possible to extend the warning time without compromising safety.
Home Front Command chief Shai Klapper presented the change to Eilat Mayor Eli Lankri and Hevel Eilot Regional Council head Hanan Ginat.
“This decision is the result of a thorough professional process," he said. “It is good news for the region and for the many tourists visiting the area, especially during the current holiday period. We are constantly working to improve solutions for civilians."
