Sephardic Chief Rabbi David Yosef on Saturday night harshly criticized a Supreme Court decision to hold a hearing during Shabbat (the Sabbath) regarding demonstrations at Habima Square in Tel Aviv in light of the Home Front Command's guidance on large gatherings.

In their decision, the Supreme Court ruled that at Habima Square a total of 600 protesters would be allowed to demonstrate, though at all other locations around the country the number of attendees would be capped at 150.

"This is an unlawful act in a Jewish state," Rabbi Yosef stated. "These judges sit on Shabbat, trample the law, and compel state representatives to respond on the holy day in complete contradiction to the law. They are acting recklessly and crudely trampling the traditions of Israel and our holy Torah."

He added that the religious public could have insisted on holding the traditional Priestly Blessing at the Western Wall, but refrained due to the war, while at the same time, left-wing protesters petitioned the court solely to in order to protest and desecrate the Sabbath.

Rabbi Yosef further argued that the religious public has lost trust in the judicial system due to what he described as a one-sided and anti-religious approach.

"There is not a single religious Jew today who places trust in this brazen group of the Supreme Court. Through their actions, they have become enemies of Judaism," he said.

"We will fight with all our strength for the identity of the State, and in the end, Judaism will be what prevails."
