Israeli sources on Saturday night estimated that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and one of the leading candidates to succeed him, has been injured but not killed.

The younger Khamenei was reportedly in his father’s bunker complex during a strike on the night between Thursday and Friday.

Earlier this week, Iranian sources told Reuters that Mojtaba Khamenei survived an assassination attempt at the start of the attack on Iran.

On Tuesday evening, Iran International reported that Iran’s Assembly of Experts selected Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Ali Khamenei who was eliminated in US-Israeli strikes, as the next Supreme Leader of Iran.

According to the report, Mojtaba’s selection was made under heavy pressure from the Revolutionary Guards.

Mojtaba, 56, lost his wife in the strike in which his father was eliminated.
