A business plane with eight people aboard crashed in Maine, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

The twin-jet Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed during takeoff from Bangor International Airport about 7:45 p.m. on Sunday night, the statement added.

Bangor Police Sgt. Jeremy Brock told NBC affiliate WCSH that the plane "had gone off the runway during departure."

It is not clear what condition the victims are in.

Meanwhile, the airport has been closed, and investigations are underway.
