Two witnesses who were at the scene of the mass shooting in Sydney, Australia spoke with Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson about the attack and the efforts to save the victims, not all of which were successful.

One of the witnesses, a State Emergency Services chaplain named Vlad, raised his hand to the camera to show the dried blood from the victims he treated.

Vlad stated that he was with his eight-year-old son when the shooting began. He pushed his son to the ground and covered him. A security guard who was shot fell on top of Vlad. He stated that he heard about 50-60 gunshots during the five minutes of "nonstop" shooting.

Vlad attempted to treat the guard, and after the shooting stopped, he attempted to help other victims who had been shot, only to be shocked at the extent of the massacre.

"I was just covering bodies because there were people dead everywhere," Vlad said. "Young, old, rabbi, they're all dead. And then two people while we tried to save them, because the ambulance didn't arrive on time. And then everyone came."

He said that the attack resulted in "dozens killed and more than dozens injured."

Vlad described two victims whom he attempted to save, including an elderly woman who was shot in the leg and later succumbed, as well as an elderly man who was shot in the head. "I couldn't help him, he tied."

Vlad and the other witness added that the victims were people they knew. Vlad vowed to light Hanukkah candles he purchased at the event at home following the massacre to "keep the show going" and to show that "we are not afraid."
