Israel Railways has announced that the train line between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv will be temporarily shortened, running between Jerusalem and Ben Gurion International Airport only.

In a notice published Wednesday on Israel Railways' site, the company announced that, "Train services in Tel Aviv will be suspended, and travel between the north and south will not be possible."

"The Tel Aviv Hashalom station will be temporarily closed.

"Trains from the south will terminate at Lod, trains from Jerusalem and Modi'in will terminate at Ben Gurion Airport, and trains from the north will terminate at Tel Aviv Savidor Merkaz."

Israel Railways explained, "Due to disruptions in train services caused by an electrification malfunction, Israel Railways has decided to take advantage of this opportunity to carry out life-saving safety work originally scheduled for later in the year."

These changes will remain in effect from August 20-26, and during this time, free shuttle services will be provided for passengers' convenience, the statement added.

The electrification malfunction which occurred last week caused Israel Railways to cancel its Locomotive Festival planned for August 17-28 at the Israel Railway Museum in Haifa. Announcements were sent to those who had purchased tickets, and Israel Railways is currently processing the refunds.
