The Los Angeles Times editorial board intended to endorse US Vice President Kamala Harris for President, but this endorsement was blocked by the family of the newspaper's owner, billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong, to protest the Biden Administration's perceived support for Israel in the war against the Hamas terrorist organization.

Soon-Shiong's daughter Nika Soon-Shiong, a left-wing activist, told the New York Times, “Our family made the joint decision not to endorse a Presidential candidate. This was the first and only time I have been involved in the process."

“As a family that experienced South African Apartheid, the endorsement was an opportunity to repudiate justifications for the widespread targeting of journalists and ongoing war on children,” she added, accusing Israel of committing a "genocide" in Gaza.

Nika Soon-Shiong's statement appears to contradict an interview her father gave the Los Angeles Times in which he stated that his decision not to let the paper endorse a candidate was not related to any single issue.

“The process was: how do we actually best inform our readers? And there could be nobody better than us who try to sift the facts from fiction," Patrick Soon-Shiong said.

The Washington Post, which is owned by Amazan founder billionaire Jeff Bezos, also decided not to endorse Vice President Harris as originally intended.
