MK Tali Gottlieb (Likud) claimed that the government's planned judicial reforms have been so watered-down as to be effectively "dead" and called for Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to be fired during an interview with Galai Tzahal (IDF Radio).
"I've been saying for months - the reform is dead," said Gottlieb. "Netanyahu chose to do this based on social, political, and other considerations."
The government is currently focused on passing a bill that would limit the Supreme Court's ability to use the 'reasonableness standard,' which allows the court to strike down government actions on the basis that in the court's opinion, not 'reasonable' government would engage in such an action even if no law or constitutional principle is technically violated.
"The reduction to [just] the reasonableness standard is a smaller trickle than what was planned. We need to think about what is good for the citizens, for the citizens it is good that we get rid of the attorney general," she said.
"When Ben-Gvir wanted to remove the [Tel Aviv] police chief from his position, she stopped it and caused harm to the citizens. Note: as long as he was in charge the roadblocks continued for hours. As you saw yesterday, as soon as he was not in charge, the roadblocks were removed much faster.
