A resident of central Israel who met Defense Minister Yoav Gallant during his visit to the city of Bat Yam on Tuesday protested to him about the series of administrative arrest warrants he recently issued against right-wing activists.
After he shouted a few words towards Gallant, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) security guards took him away from the scene and then, he claimed, detained him for many hours, conducting a humiliating search of his body in the middle of the street in front of passers-by. The man said that he was only released after many hours.
"The left-wing protesters are rampaging throughout the country and no one is touching them, but was detained and humiliated like the last of the criminals just because I uttered two delicate sentences," he said in frustration. "The selective enforcement here is outrageous."
"All I wanted was to protest to Gallant over his choice to impose such draconian orders on Jews who only a few days ago buried their friends, while Arab terrorism is raging throughout the country and receiving a weak response from the defense establishment."
The Shin Bet said in response that the security force acted in accordance with the procedures and that it would not comment on security-related issues beyond that.
