
The Palestinian Authority (PA) official in charge of prisoners' affairs, Qadri Abu Bakr, died in a collision between two vehicles bearing PA plates, media reports said.
The Saturday collision, which occurred near the city of Ariel, left two others critically injured.
Magen David Adom (MDA) teams were called to the scene at around 3:00p.m., and provided medical aid to six people who were injured, including three who were critically injured. Red Crescent teams arriving at the scene evacuated all of the injured to areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority.
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said, "Abu Bakr dedicated his life as a strong fighter in the defense of Palestine and its people. Abu Bakr was placed on the front lines and protected his land in the national sphere and international sphere."
Abbas also praised Bakr's "actions as part of the Fatah leadership and for its institutions" and expressed deep condolences to Bakr's family and friends in the "battle."
Abu Bakr, 70, served as the head of the PA prisoners' affairs unit since 2018.
