MK Simon Davidson (Yesh Atid) on Monday evening went up to the podium in the Knesset plenum and "eulogized" Israeli democracy in a speech, ahead of the vote in the first reading of Justice Minister Yariv Levin’s judicial reform.
"I stand here and give a eulogy speech. I want to tell you about the glorious Israeli democracy. The democracy that accompanied us for 75 years. Israeli democracy suffered a lot before it passed away. Background illnesses did not give it any rest," he said.
Davidson displayed a death notice for "the late Israeli democracy" and said, "Populism has spread throughout its body. The judiciary has been weakened and the resilience of democracy has been undermined. The Supreme Court has lost the ability to annul laws. Offensive laws with the title of ‘Basic Law’ were enacted casually, and there was no one to criticize them.”
"These were all the processes that led to its death. My fellow members of the Knesset, it was 75 years old. It died in its youth. Left us bereft of human rights. And I invite everyone, the funeral will leave from Jerusalem and take place during the third reading on the legal coup, everyone is invited to the funeral."
