A high school female basketball game in the Los Angeles area over the weekend was interrupted with Jewish players being accosted by shouts of “Kanye West,” swastikas and Palestinian Arab flags.

The game between Shalhevet Firehawks, a team representing a Jewish high school, and the Buena Park Coyotes, was hotly contested, a Shalhevet student told the Jewish Journal, with Shalhevet beating Buena Park 59–55.

“My friend was standing across the gym by the other team when she texted me and told me they were chanting Kanye West at her the entire game. They were shouting at her and yelling that they were going to fight after the game.”

The student described that “there was one mom from the other side who was standing with a group of students screaming, ‘Where is the security guard’? When she found him she went up to him and accused him of pushing her daughter.”

Another student from Shalhevet told the outlet that Buena Park students shoved their cellphones, with images of Palestinian Arab flags on them, in the faces of Jewish students.

A third student said that Buena Park players help up their phones with “pictures of swastikas on [them]” to intimidate Shalhevet players.

After the game, there was a confrontation outside. One Shalhevet student said that while there was no physical altercation, “I did feel really scared.”
