Four days before he takes office as the 23rd Chief of Staff of the IDF, Major General Herzi Halevi will meet on Thursday with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who also serves as a Minister in the Ministry of Defense, the Israel Hayom website reports.
According to the report, this will be the first time that a new Chief of Staff will have to work and maneuver between two ministers in the Ministry of Defense, both of whom are also new to their roles.
Halevi's meeting with Smotrich will take place against the background of the coalition agreements, in which Smotrich demanded control of the Civil Administration, and for the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) to be subordinate to him.
The meeting between the two will take place with the approval and knowledge of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said, "The designated Chief of Staff will meet with the Minister of Finance as part of the process of assuming the position. The meeting is held in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Defense and in accordance with the procedures."
