Yair Netanyahu, the son of Prime Minister Netanyahu, has published a post on his Facebook account concerning the proposed reforms to the judicial system announced on Wednesday by Justice Minister Yariv Levin.

"The justice system and State Prosecution Service have the power to ruin the lives of all of the country's citizens," he wrote. "This is power that the government and Knesset don't have."

"They can empty the bank accounts of any citizen, they can arrest and humiliate any citizen, they can separate any citizen from their children, and they can deny the freedom of any citizen," he continued. "In practice, they can torture and extort any citizen (as was exposed in court during Case 2000)," he added, referring to one of the cases against his father.

"Individual citizens have no protection against this enormous power and the injustice it practices. There are no checks and balances in this system which can destroy the lives of citizens."

By contrast, the government is severely restricted by the simple fact that there are elections every few years, Netanyahu junior stressed. "The people can change the Knesset and government and send them home if they aren't happy with their work."

On Wednesday, Justice Minister Yariv Levin formally announced his proposed reforms to the judicial system, among them being an Override Clause that would allow the Knesset to vote again on legislation struck down by the Supreme Court and pass it into law with a 61-MK majority.

Minister Levin called his reforms "balanced" and stated that the current system gives unelected officials such as judges and legal advisors too much power. "It's not democracy," he stated.
