A Democratic member of Congress is calling on President Joe Biden not to run for re-election.

Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips said in a radio interview on Thursday that he felt Biden should let another candidate be the party’s nominee for the 2024 election and added that he believed the country needed “well-prepared Democrats” instead of the president, Fox News reported.

Asked if he would support Biden’s re-election bid, he relied “no.”

"The country would be well-served by a new generation of compelling, well-prepared, dynamic Democrats who step up,” he added.

Several Democrats, including moderates and incumbents in competitive districts, have hesitated in endorsing Biden for a second term.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also would not endorse Biden when asked by CNN in early June.

Instead, she dodged the question, replying: “We'll cross that bridge when we get to it… Should he run again, I think it's — we'll take a look at it. Right now we need to focus on winning a majority instead of a presidential election."

Biden is the oldest president in the country’s history and would be 81 if he ran in 2024. The White House had denied there is any discussion of Biden not running for a second term.
