Alternate Prime Minister Naftali Bennett (Yamina), who also serves as Religious Affairs Minister, refused an offer by interim Prime Minister Yair Lapid to serve as Alternate Foreign Minister, Kan Reshet Bet reported Monday morning.

Sources close to Bennett say he made a decision to "remove himself" from the public-media radar. This is reportedly one of the reasons Bennett preferred to refuse Lapid's offer.

From Lapid's perspective, it may be that he was attempting to placate Bennett or ensure he has a significant role during his last few months of public life.

Eden Bizman, Bennett's Director General, informed Lapid's office of the decision.

If Bennett had taken the offer, he would not be able to serve in the role for more than three months, since the position is a "substitute" position. Following Bennett's refusal, Lapid plans to continue to hold the Foreign Ministry portfolio himself.
