First Lady Jill Biden apologized on Tuesday for comments made during a speech in San Antonio in which she compared the Hispanic community to “breakfast tacos.”

Biden’s statement at the "LatinX IncluXion" luncheon drew immediate criticism, and was denounced by members of the Hispanic community, Republicans and others on social media.

During the talk, Biden also mispronounced the word “bodega,” mixing up the letters “d” and “g.”

The widespread condemnation of Biden’s suggestion that the Hispanic community was as unique as “breakfast tacos” led to the First Lady apologizing through Michael LaRosa, her press secretary.

“The First Lady apologizes that her words conveyed anything but pure admiration and love for the Latino community,” LaRosa said on Twitter.

In response, Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), who is of Cuban descent, changed his Twitter profile photo to an image of a taco under the hashtag #NewProfilePic.
