Ki Tavo contains one of the Pesukim that illustrates that the Jews’ are Hashem’s chosen people; for example, the Possuk states (Devarim 26’ 19’):
"And to place you [Am Yisrael] the nations whom He made for praise and for renown and for glory, and so that you may be a people sanctified to Hashem, your God, as He said…"
Seforno explains, that the import of the Possuk is that Am Yisrael were selected to be teachers for the rest of the nations of the world, to help all of humanity seek out and grow closer to Hashem [See Shemot 19’ 6’, for additional comments of the Seforno]. This will result in Am Yisrael’s earning of praise and glory from the rest of mankind-but not for own benefit; rather, we will be the conduit through which Hashem will become glorified. Thus, the end of the Possuk quoted above communicates that one should not serve Hashem to arouse feelings of grandeur amongst our people; rather, it should impress upon us our responsibility and duty to uplift the Name of Hashem across the world.
This can be only be done when observing the Torah and Halachot properly; as the Torah states [Devarim 4’ 6’]:
"You will preserve and you will fulfill [the laws of the Torah], for that [displays] your wisdom and your understanding before the nations, who will hear all these statutes and will say, ‘‘The only wise and understanding people is this great nation…"
Even when challenged with the moods and vicissitudes of the changing times, commitment to the ways of our ancestors will always elevate our perception in the eyes of the nation. This does not mean that there will not be murmurings and rumblings against the Torah-as Rashi writes, regarding the incomprehensible Mitzvah of Para Adumah {the Red Cow} [Bamidbar 19’ 2’]:
“...Because Satan and the nations of the world taunt Israel, saying, “What is this command and what reason is there for it", on this account it (Scripture) writes the term חקה about it, implying: It is an enactment from before Me; you have no right to criticize it..."
Rashi is explaining that because the wisdom behind the Mitzvah of Para Adumah will be too lofty for any mortal [perhaps aside from Moshe], Satan and his minions will attempt to use this Mitzvah as a cudgel against the divine nature of Am Yisrael’s existence. The response of the Jewish nation cannot be rationales and reasonings for this Mitzvah-the Torah’s testimony that Para Adumah is a “Chok" [divine and non-understandable decree] prevents this becoming a viable option! Therefore, our only response can be sincere dedication and commitment towards following the ways of Hashem, both in matters relating to G-d, and in matters relating to all of humanity.
