A 12-year-old boy suddenly lost consciousness Thursday afternoon at a store in a shopping center in central Israel. Magen David Adom first responder Meir Azulai, who arrived at the scene within approximately two minutes, found the boy without a pulse and not breathing and immediately began performing CPR.
Using a defibrillator, the medic administered two electric shocks to the boy, restoring his heart activity and gradually bringing him back to consciousness.
“I arrived at the store and saw a boy about 12 years old lying unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse. I immediately began lifesaving treatment, and using the defibrillator I had with me, I gave him two electric shocks," Azulai recounted.
“Afterward, his heart began beating again and he gradually regained consciousness. The MDA intensive care team that arrived at the scene evacuated him to the hospital."
An intensive care ambulance subsequently arrived to continue providing medical treatment and evacuate the boy.
MDA paramedic Shay Pinchas added, “I saw the boy when he was already semi-conscious, and we immediately continued providing medical treatment. We administered medication and evacuated him to Schneider Children’s Medical Center in stable condition and conscious."
