Three illegal infiltrators from Hebron were arrested during an operation by Northern District Police and Border Police at a guesthouse complex in Ramot in the Golan Heights. During the planned operation, officers spotted two men driving an electric utility vehicle and stopped them for inspection. The two, aged 19 and 35, were found to be residing in Israel illegally.
At the same time, officers spotted a third suspect fleeing the area and entering a sewage channel. Police opened the channel and repeatedly called on him to come out. After he failed to respond, firefighting and rescue crews and Magen David Adom were called to the scene over concerns for his safety. After repeated calls, the 29-year-old Hebron resident emerged from the channel exhausted and injured. He was arrested along with the other two suspects and taken to a police station.
The suspects' detention was extended, and the Kiryat Shmona prosecution unit filed an indictment against them on Monday, charging them with illegally entering or residing in Israel and obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duties.
Following the arrests, Northern District Police Commander Meir Eliyahu ordered the guesthouse business closed for 30 days. Police said enforcement action against the business over the employment, transportation and lodging of illegal residents is continuing.
