Iranian media reported on Friday evening that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a surprise ballistic missile attack against US bases in Jordan.
Al-Arabiya reported air defense activity in Jordan and sirens and explosions reportedly were heard in the area.
A US official told Channel 12 News’ Barak Ravid that at this stage, there is no knowledge of attacks on US bases in Jordan.
Earlier this week, US forces launched strikes against IRGC targets in Iran, including in the areas of Qeshm Island, Chabahar, and Bandar Abbas, near the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated that US forces targeted Iranian air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites.
Iran subsequently launched ballistic missiles toward US military bases in Jordan. The Jordanian military said 13 ballistic missiles were fired toward the kingdom, of which 10 were intercepted. The remaining three exploded in areas far from population centers.
Two US officials told Reuters that no American personnel in Jordan were injured.
Iranian media later reported that Tehran had attacked a US military base in Bahrain with drones, though there was no official confirmation of the report. Explosions were also heard in Kuwait, where the military said the country's air defenses were engaging Iranian ballistic missiles and drones.
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he does not expect the renewed conflict with Iran to continue for much longer, as he discussed the latest escalation with reporters in the Oval Office.
Asked how long the latest escalation was likely to continue, Trump replied, “Not too long". He subsequently expressed a similar assessment of the broader conflict, saying Iran may have limited capacity to withstand continued US strikes.
“I don’t think it will be very much longer. I don’t know how much more they can take," Trump said of Iran.
