MK Tzvi Sukkot visited Monday the site on the Beitunia bypass road where an Israeli reservist was attacked the previous evening by Palestinian Authority police officers.
The incident took place in the heart of Area C, where Israeli civilians are permitted to travel and the PA police have no authority to operate.
During the incident, PA police officers violently detained the soldier, who was on his way to the Dolev-Talmonim bloc, and took his personal military weapon. No injuries were reported.
During his tour of the site where the roadblock had been set up, Sukkot, chairman of the Knesset Subcommittee for Judea and Samaria Affairs, called on the IDF and law enforcement authorities to immediately locate and arrest the PA police officers involved in the incident.
He also called for the establishment of a safe and secure travel route providing continuous access between the communities of the Dolev-Talmonim bloc and Route 443.
“This is an extraordinarily serious incident. It is important to understand that we are in the heart of Area C, in an area where Israelis are legally permitted to travel. What has yet to be addressed is the illegal Palestinian construction taking place here unchecked, which has not yet been dealt with. But what is especially prohibited is for those terrorists from the Palestinian police to come here, set up roadblocks, behave violently and abduct a Jew from this location. This is a disgrace," said Sukkot.
“What makes this incident even more shameful and disgraceful is the Civil Administration spokesperson’s absurd response, claiming that they had supposedly ‘rescued’ a Jew from this location. I demand that the IDF immediately arrest those terrorists from the Palestinian Authority. They must be punished for the violence they inflicted on an IDF reservist and ensure and permanently secure the movement of Jews who are legally traveling through this area, and make sure that no terrorist from the PA harms Jews traveling along the route," Sukkot concluded.
