The parents of Hymanut Kassaou, Benchi and Tesfai, on Monday morning appealed to Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) director David Zini.
In the letter, sent on the 911th day since their daughter disappeared, Benchi and Tesfai asked that the investigation be transferred to the Shin Bet and requested a personal meeting with Zini, during which they would present their claims regarding the handling of the investigation.
The official appeal comes about ten days after the parents approached Zini and asked him to meet with them and take over the investigation. According to the family, the request was made in light of the Shin Bet's involvement in other disappearance cases that occurred in recent weeks.
In their letter, the parents wrote, "For 911 days, we have been waiting and hoping for the return of our daughter Hymanut. For 910 days, we have known nothing about the reason for her disappearance, other than the fact that we know our Hymanut was abducted."
They added, "Beyond the longing, the greatest frustration and sorrow are that, as of today, Israel Police has no information, direction, or theory whatsoever as to what happened to our daughter, who was taken from the absorption center during the evening hours of February 25, 2024."
For more than two and a half years, the family has criticized the police's handling of the case. According to the family, it has received no response from the Israel Police Commissioner, the Lahav 433 crime-fighting unit, or the Northern District.
The parents also referred in their letter to the Shin Bet's activities in recent weeks: "We, like all the people of Israel, saw the happy endings thanks to the work of you and the teams under your command. We breathed a sigh of relief for other families, but inside we continued to cry over all the mistakes that were made, and are still being made, in the handling of our Hymanut's case."
Benchi and Tesfai asked the Shin Bet Director to intervene directly in the investigation, adding, "Therefore, we ask that after so many desperate days, the investigation be transferred to the Shin Bet."
"We would like to present to you the course of the investigation thus far and ask to do so as soon as possible, face to face," they concluded.
