An Israeli search-and-rescue team is continuing its operations in Cali, Colombia, on the third day of deployment after a major earthquake struck the region.
The team is focused on one of the hardest-hit locations in the city, where a six-story building collapsed. Israeli Consul to Mexico Hila Burg Silberstein, speaking from the site, said the operation remains active as crews attempt to reach those still believed to be trapped.
She noted that rescuers had recovered several individuals the previous day, but none survived.
On Monday, the operation shifted to the use of heavy machinery to clear debris and improve access to deeper sections of the collapsed structure, as Israeli and Colombian personnel continue working side by side.
In parallel, Israeli engineering teams are assisting local authorities in evaluating structural damage across Cali, helping to identify buildings that may be unsafe following the quake.
According to Colombia’s National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), emergency response efforts remain ongoing across affected areas, with search-and-rescue operations continuing amid concerns about aftershocks and additional structural instability. Authorities have urged residents to avoid damaged buildings while assessments and recovery work proceed.
