An Israeli news team from the i24NEWS Hebrew channel, comprising reporter Yonatan Raveh and videographer Nadav Abas, was attacked last week while filming a report in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on rising antisemitism in Europe. The incident occurred in a bar district as the team was interviewing passersby. Since then, the two departed Northern Ireland and returned to Israel.
During filming, an irate individual who realized the crew was from Israel intervened and attempted to seize their camera equipment. Failing to do so, they disrupted the shoot by making obscene gestures at the camera, forcing filming to a halt.
The crew attempted to de-escalate the situation and move away, but the assailant aggressively approached the videographer. The journalists called for help from security personnel at nearby bars, whereupon the attacker grabbed a large glass beer pint and hurled it forcefully at the videographer, causing a bleeding laceration to his head. The team left the scene, required no further medical treatment, and both are doing well.
This incident took place during production of Yonatan Raveh's third documentary series covering the surge of global antisemitism, following recent special reports filmed in Spain and New York. The new series is scheduled to air during the upcoming weeks on i24NEWS channels.
