New footage released Wednesday night reveals the moment a UPS aircraft crashed near an industrial building in Kentucky, followed by people fleeing the site.
UPS Flight 2976, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, had departed just after 5:00 p.m. local time en route to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.
The plane crashed shortly after taking off from Louisville airport. At least 12 people were killed in the disaster and the wreckage was scattered over more than 20 kilometers.
A probe team from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched a comprehensive investigation at the site. Investigators recovered the aircraft’s black box, which is expected to yield critical information about the moments before the crash.
At this stage, the investigators are examining the possibility of a serious technical failure that led to loss of control shortly after take‑off. However, nothing has been ruled out yet.
