Congressman Ritchie Torres (D-NY), one of the most outspoken supporters of Israel in the Democratic Party, noted that the videos published by Gaza terrorist organizations showing Israeli hostages in severely emaciated states will not spark the same global outrage that less reliable reports of starvation in Gaza cause.

"Hamas has held Evyatar David captive for nearly 700 days. In a visibly starved and skeletal state, he was then forced to dig his own grave," Torres wrote on X.

"Without a shred of shame, Hamas released video footage of its emaciated hostages, knowing full well that the world, so selective in its outrage, will respond with little more than thunderous silence," he added.

A propaganda video was recently released by Hamas, showing 24-year-old hostage Evyatar David in an emaciated and frail state. A film of hostage Rom Braslavki, so weak he is barely able to talk, was released as well.

A former New York Times staffer who worked at the paper for 35 years criticized the Times for burying the video of Evyatar.

Yaakov Ort, who is the former Managing Director of Creative Services at The New York Times, called the paper's coverage of the video, or lack thereof, "heartless" and "bad journalism."

"The symbolism of the photo is so apt, since this is exactly what most current Times news, editorial, and op-ed page writers and editors—and those justifiably fearful of the Islamic street in the West—are arguing daily that the people of Israel should do: Dig our own graves. Guess what? We won't," Ort stated.
