Israel's Diplomatic-Security Cabinet, after a lengthy delay, approved a proposal by Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi (Likud) to implement the set actions for foreign media in the case of Al Mayadeen.
Al Mayadeen is known to be affiliated with the Hezbollah terror group.
According to protocol for emergency situations, after the approval of the Cabinet, Karhi may issue an order to close the offices, confiscate broadcasting equipment, and block the use of various media infrastructure of a broadcasting body which harms the State's security.
"Israel is at war," Karhi said. "Broadcasts such as these, which are identified with the enemy, while harming the country's security, must all be blocked. The broadcasts and journalists of the Al Mayadeen channel serve the despicable terror groups, and it is time to hold them to account."
"The Communications Ministry, under my watch, will continue to act to strengthen the communications infrastructure on the one hand, and to eliminate communications infrastructure among those who seek our downfall."
