Former Likud MK Benny Begin, son of former Prime Minister Menachem Begin, spoke outside the Knesset on Monday and blasted the Likud Party.
"50 years have passed since I joined the Likud, a liberal national movement that fosters the rights of the Jewish people and promotes the realization of human rights," he said.
He added, "Today the Likud abandons human and civil liberties for the sake of control without limitations and without restraints. In doing so, it becomes a nationalist, predatory and destructive party."
Begin for many years represented the Likud Party, as part of which he was first elected to the 12th Knesset in 1988. Over the years he served as Minister of Science, Minister without Portfolio and member of the political-security cabinet.
However, in January of 2021, Begin left the Likud Party and joined the New Hope Party led by former Likud MK Gideon Sa'ar.
Last July, Begin announced he would be stepping down from politics but would remain a member of New Hope.
His comments followed the Knesset's approval of the second and third readings of the bill limiting the use of the reasonableness standard.
