Prime Minister Netanyahu is convening the heads of the haredi parties in his office this evening (Monday) to discuss the possibility of postponing the conscription law.
In about two weeks, the arrangement which allows the postponement of military service for haredi yeshiva students will expire. After two postponements, the Prime Minister's Office is being consulted on whether to request a third postponement and renew the legislation in the winter conference.
According to Channel 12 News, while the Shas party and the Degel HaTorah faction of the UTJ party sided with the rejection of the legislation, Agudat Israel, another faction within UTJ, demands that the legislation be initiated at the current summer conference. Agudat Israel insists that the law be submitted at least in the first reading in the current session.
According to sources from Agudat Israel quoted in the report, "When the Likud wants - it knows how to speed through the legislative process even within a month."
