Jordanian MP Imad Al-Adwan has been indicted in Amman on charges he attempted to smuggle weapons and gold into Judea and Samaria, Haaretz reported.

If found guilty, the politician, whose parliamentary immunity was revoked, faces up to 15 years in prison.

He is accused of attempting to export weapons for illegal use from Jordan into Israel, and committing acts to disrupt public order and the security of Jordan, his attorney told AFP.

Al-Adwan, 35, was arrested in April by Israeli police at the Allenby Crossing on Israel’s eastern border after he crossed the King Hussein Bridge and was attempting to enter Israel on his parliamentary passport.

Israeli border personnel found that al-Adwan’s vehicle contained hundreds of guns, including 17 M-16 assault rifles and roughly 160 pistols.

Based on a tip they had received, customs inspectors at the border carefully inspected al-Adwan’s vehicle, discovering the contraband. The MP was arrested and transferred to the Shin Bet for interrogation.

A member of the Jordanian Parliament’s Palestine Committee, al-Adwan has openly supported Arab terrorist groups including Hamas, Channel 12 reported, while castigating the Jewish state.

Jordan’s Petra news agency reported that other defendants connected to the MP admitted to “trading and smuggling weapons, gold and e-cigarettes” with him.
