The former leader of the far-right Proud Boys group and three members were found guilty on Thursday of seditious conspiracy and multiple other felony counts over their roles in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.

A fifth member was found guilty of multiple felonies and is awaiting the jury's verdict on conspiracy counts.

A Washington DC federal court jury found one-time Proud Boys president Enrique Tarrio and subordinate members, Ethan Nordean, Zachary Rehl and Joseph Biggs, guilty of a conspiracy to prevent the lawful transfer of power to Joe Biden and also of prior planning and intending to use force to prevent the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election, CBS News reported.

A fifth member, Dominic Pezzola, is still awaiting a verdict on seditious conspiracy, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding. The judge told the jury to go back and further deliberate on the charges and several other felonies on which they had not come to a verdict.

The five defendants were found guilty of multiple other felonies, notably obstructing an official proceeding, obstructing Congress, conspiracy to prevent an officer from discharging duties, obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, and aiding and abetting and destruction of government property.

Prosecutors told the court that the defendants had entered into a conspiracy to use unlawful force, as the protest grew in Washington DC, to prevent the transfer of power from then-President Donald Trump to President Joe Biden.

They face maximum sentences of 20 years in prison.
