Over the weekend, large signs were put up in haredi communities around Israel, demanding that the haredi MKs put a stop to the railway construction on Saturday (Shabbat).

According to the campaign's creators, on the past few Saturdays there has been construction on the railway infrastructure, carried out by Jewish workers and "trampling the Sabbath in a clear fashion, through work which is not necessary to save a life."

"If the Ayalon [highway] can be blocked for leftist protests, it can also be blocked in order to prevent Sabbath desecration due to railway construction," the signs read.

"The popular claim by the Transportation Ministry is that it cannot block off a central road such as the Ayalon in the middle of the week in order to do infrastructure work, but the protests proved that the Ayalon can be blocked in the middle of the week - and not just once or twice."

The campaign's creators then turn to haredi MKs Aryeh Deri (Shas), Yitzhak Goldknopf (United Torah Judaism), Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism), and to Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich of Religious Zionism, insisting: "You must stop the desecration, immediately. This is not the time to remain silent."
