Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's attorneys today (Monday) contacted Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to obtain her permission for Netanyahu to speak out on President Isaac Herzog's proposal to mediate talks between the coalition and opposition on the government's proposed judicial reforms at the President's Residence, Channel 12 News reported.

According to the report, the request was intended to allow Netanyahu to address the proposal for talks on the judicial reform issue despite the attorney general's announcement that Netanyahu is prohibited from being involved with the judicial reforms due to a possible conflict of interest related to his corruption trials.

Sources involved in the issue said that the attorney general informed Netanyahu's attorneys that the prime minister is not allowed to publicly speak about the president's proposal.

The Likud party believes that Netanyahu must be allowed to speak about the president's proposal to allow the different sides to reach a compromise on the judicial reforms.

Earlier, Netanyahu called on the opposition parties to engage in dialogue on the judicial reform issue, but avoided mentioning President Herzog's proposal.

"The majority of Israeli citizens do not want anarchy. They want a substantive discourse and in the end they want unity," Netanyahu said.
