A former roommate of embattled Rep. George Santos said in an interview that the Congress member used a fake Jewish-sounding last name in a GoFundMe campaign because he believed that “Jews give more.”
Gregory Morey-Parker, who was Santos’ roommate, told CNN on Tuesday that Santos had used several names when they lived together.
He recalled that Santos, who has said that his full name is George Anthony Devolder Santos, was using the name Anthony Devolder at the time.
But Morey-Parker added that Santos also used the Jewish-sounding Anthony Zebrowski/Zebrowsky for his “Friends of Pets United” GoFundMe campaign.
"He would say, 'oh well, the Jews will give more if you're a Jew.' So that's the name he used for his GoFundMe," Morey-Parker told CNN.
On Sunday, fellow Republican and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said that Santos will be removed from Congress if found to have broken campaign finance laws, Reuters reported.
"He's a bad guy," Comer was quoted as having said on CNN's "State of the Union" program. "It's not up to me or any other member of Congress to determine whether he can be kicked out for lying. Now, if he broke campaign finance laws, then he will be removed from Congress.”
